Giocare a Pokemon Go sotto effetto di mescalina è forse una di quelle esperienze che possono essere paragonate all’ascolto di una delle coloratissime produzioni di Iglooghost. Con un esordio sulla label Activia Benz, il 2015 era stato l’anno della svolta per questo giovanissimo produttore inglese che, appena diciottenne, aveva pubblicato il suo Chinese Nü Yr EP sulla Brainfeeder di Flying Lotus. A due anni di distanza, Iglooghost è pronto per la release del suo primo LP, Neō Wax Bloom, in uscita il 29 Settembre sempre per Brainfeeder.

Come nel caso di Chinese Nü Yr, dove la narrativa dell’EP si costruiva intorno alle avventure di un verme gelatinoso che si muove attraverso portali che lo fanno entrare in mondi paralleli, anche il concept dietro a Neō Wax Bloom sembra la trama di un videogioco concepito da qualcuno che fa pesante uso di droghe psichedeliche:

When a pair of giant eyeballs crash into the strange, misty world of Mamu, the mysterious forces that govern nature itself are disrupted. A life cycle of transforming creatures is thrown off balance, and the odd looking inhabitants of Mamu are forced to adapt to this calamity. These inhabitants include Yomi - a multicoloured pom-pom monk; Lummo - a wise blind witch training a band of melon coloured babies; and Uso - a sneaky bug thief hidden in a green cloak - as well as many others. As their respective stories begin to interlock, the mysteries surrounding the giant eyeballs are slowly revealed

Ad anticipare l’uscita dell’LP, il singolo Bug Thief, un caleidoscopico amalgama IDM/ breakbeat, con delle reminiscenze jungle-tek sporcate da una patina di J-pop: schizofrenico e surreale al punto giusto. #enjoythebar
